Funding Sources
Waterloo Fire Rescue's Fire PALS School-based injury Prevention Program is a non-profit, 100% grant funded program. The Centers for Disease Control and Unintentional Injury Prevention has supported the program for the past several years, along with smaller grants and fundraisers.
Collaborating Agencies
The Fire PALS Program is composed of five safety-oriented agencies that each plays an important role in the school-based injury prevention program. The programs are taught to children in Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.
- Waterloo Fire Rescue
Organize all activities in the schools, conduct meetings with principals and other community leaders, and distributes schedules to participating organizations.
- Prepares and presents fire safety education.
- Prepares and presents latchkey children and babysitting education.
- Host bicycle rodeos.
-Provide safety house classes.
-Train and schedule Fire PALS instructors. 
- The Hawkeye Chapter of the American Red Cross
- Water safety education
- Severe weather education in collaboration with Project Safeside and the Weather Channel
- ThinkFirst Iowa
- Brain and spinal Cord Injury Prevention education
- Outdoor recreation safety
- Assist with local bicycle rodeos
- Allen Memorial Hospital & Covenant Health System
- Both Allen Memorial and Covenant Health System are represented on the Fire PALS steering committee
- The organization representatives provide important insight to the other agencies regarding injuries and data collection specific for our community.
- They provide funding for Waterloo Fire Rescue Safety Trailer
